The operator rises with the platform, so every level of the rack is directly reachable rather than needing the pallet brought down. It also requires a fall-protection harness and disciplined operating practice, which is a training question as much as an equipment one.

Order Pickers questions
1 Is fall protection required?
Yes. Operators on an elevating platform must wear a body harness with a lanyard attached to the designated anchor point on the truck. That is not optional, and it needs to be part of operator training and daily practice rather than a policy nobody enforces.
2 Do order pickers need guidance?
In very narrow aisles, usually — wire guidance or rail keeps the truck centred and lets the operator concentrate on picking rather than steering at height. In wider aisles it is optional. It is a decision worth making at rack layout stage, because retrofitting guidance to an installed system is disruptive.
3 Can one truck do both picking and pallet handling?
Poorly. Order pickers and counterbalance trucks solve different problems, and a truck chosen to compromise between them tends to do both jobs slowly. Most operations running real pick volume end up with both.
